Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! on Leadership

April 14th, 2007 by shawn · No Comments

Here’s a quick lesson five things you need to be a good leader – all culled from Russ Meyer’s masterpiece B-movie Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

Faster Pussycat Varla

1. Determination. Varla: “I never try anything – I just do it!” Sometimes, you just gotta make yourself succeed by just doing it and not allowing failure to even be an option.

2. Hard work. Sure these girls were out for some easy money. But what did they do all week? They worked – and go-go dancing ain’t easy, either.

3. Adaptability. When Billie was killed, did Varla and Rosie quit? No! They changed their plan and adapted to the new development.

4. Leadership. You must be able to direct people to get things done. Simple as that. If you expect to run a business and make money, you need to stand up and be the boss sometimes.

Gas Station Attendant: Yes ma’am, what can I do for you today?
Varla: Just your job, squirrel. Fill it up!

5. Courage. Varla wasn’t afraid of anyone – which is why she killed a man with her bare hands and attempted to do the same to Kirk at the end of the movie. To begin with, she was pretty audacious to even attempt their plan to get the old man’s money. A girl like that has moxie. She has grit. She has courage!
